Beverley Martyn a murit la vârsta de 79 de ani.
Legenda folk a murit luni, a confirmat o postare pe site-ul lui John Martyn, fostul ei soț, publicată pe site-ul web.
„Cu profundă tristețe anunțăm că Beverley a decedat în pace acasă pe 27 aprilie 2026”, se arată în comunicat.
„Beverley a fost o femeie remarcabilă, cu o mare forță interioară. Era frumoasă, inteligentă, caldă și amabilă.”
Beverley a fost o figură cheie în circuitul folk al anilor 1960, fiind lidera trupei The Levee Breakers și lansându-și cariera solo cu single-ul „Happy New Year”, scris de Randy Newman, în 1966.
În 1970, a lansat albumele Stormbringer! și The Road to Ruin ca parte a unui duet cu soțul ei de atunci, John Martyn.
Beverley a cântat la Monterey și a apărut pe piesa „Fakin' it” a trupei Simon & Garfunkel, printre numeroasele sale colaborări.
S-a retras din muzică în anii 1980, dar a revenit triumfător în 1998 cu albumul „No Frills”, urmat de „The Phoenix and the Turtle” și „Where The Good Times Are” din 2018.
